Questions And Answers On Dyshidrotic Eczema

Cindy asks…

Anyone diagnosed with Dyshidrotic Eczema?

I was and prescribed Clobex spray. Spray is messy so I put it on only the affected areas with a Qtip. Put it on only twice a day. The nodules on my hand were tough like a callus. I kept putting band-aids with the anti-biotic on them. This would soften and open them up so the clobex could work. I wasn’t afraid to pick at the dry skin left to clear it out of the way of the medicine also. It has cleared the eczema within a week. I hate the idea of using any steroidal meds but so far have to say it works. Also kept areas as dry and cool as possible. Stay barefoot etc. Still waiting to be allergy tested. Has anyone else used the clobex for dyshidrotic eczema and has it stayed in remission for very long afterwards? Thank you and may you stay rash free!

answers:

I have eczema on my hands, and my doctor prescribes me Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment, U.S.P 0.025 It’s kind of greasy, that’s why I usually put it on at night, but it works really well.

Jane asks…

dyshidrotic eczema cure?

I am down to the last drop of my prescription cream for dyshidrotic eczema and I have found nothing that comes close the cream that can allow me to sleep at night without all the itching. It is cold and dry where I live so I am going crazy. Does anyone know of an over the counter livesaver? plain old lotions like jergens and neutrogena don’t help… dermasil even doesn’t touch it…I am going to be insane before spring arrives!

answers:

Get your Dr. To prescribe something.

Shelley asks…

Dyshidrotic eczema on my arms and legs, any ideas for treatment?

I have had Dyshidrotic eczema since I was four years old. But I was only recently correctly diagnosied. My doctor told to use Vasoline intensive care all the time, and he has me using a steriod cream as well. The funny thing is growing up I only had it on my arms and legs. Only in the last year or two have I had any on my hands, and my hands still dont get it that bad. I only have outbreaks in the spring and early summer when Im first in the sun. They come about 12 hours after my exposure, and they taper off as the season progresses and my skin gets more exposure to the sun. Does anyone else have these symptoms, and if so what are you doing to help reduce outbreaks?

answers:

Keep using Vaseline – its kind of soothing

I was given hydrocortisone by my doctor that’s a steroid cream too – that helps clear it up

Also try E45 helps moisturize the skin

My break outs are usually cause by whether changes – especially when it gets hot

Stress

Sometimes my diet – although i havent yet found out what triggers a break out

& dont worry about where you break out

for me its hands behind the legs arms face neck !!!

Life goes on just keep watchin what you eat see if ur diet has something to do with it

use those creams and live life wooooooh

Questions And Answers On Nummular Eczema

Jim asks…

How much flaxseed oil should i take?

hi. I am a 26 year old female whos been suffering from eczema my whole life. about three years ago i started breaking out with round patches all over my body. after a little research i found out it was nummular eczema. I heard a lot of good things about flaxseed oil and was wondering how much should i take. the brand i bought is spring valley. and they are 1000mg softgels. other than my eczema i am a healthy female. thank you for your time.

answers:

You should consult a doctor. They’re able to calculate how much your body can intake and provide you the necessary dosis for your treatment. Everyone has their own body type, so it’s necessary for you to know how much you need. Hence, you wouldn’t want to be taking too much or too little because it could create problems or ineffeciency. Also, doctors can recommend to you some helpful tips and procedure to reduce your Eczema. Good luck! =]

Mike asks…

WHAT IS THIS? eczema or psoriasis?

my grandma has skin that looks like this

http://missinglink.ucsf.edu/lm/DermatologyGlossary/img/Dermatology%20Glossary/Glossary%20Clinical%20Images/Eczema_Nummular-L.jpg

which is eczema except its not that severe. its EXTREMELY itchy, dry, red, just like that and obliviously annoying.
The other day we visited a skin specialist who said its Psoriasis but psoriasis looks like this:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b3/Psoriasis_on_back.jpg/450px-Psoriasis_on_back.jpg

and my grandma’s back looks nothing like that and nobody ever in my family ever had psoriasis and i heard its mostly heredrity so yeah… i think its eczema what do you think?

plus my family is known to have eczema, my mom has it, i have it and my grandma also had it before just not as bad as this time. Now she has had it all over her back for over a year and we tried everything but nothing has worked.

its not like the skin doctor did any test on her to see if its really psoriasis he just looked at it

answers:

The doctor probably said that is is psoriasis because eczema is more of a rash type disease. I have eczema and from what I understand, both conditions can benefit from the same treatments, so it is okay if she is misdiagnosed between those two. You can always ask for a second opinion though if you are concerned. Hope this helps!

answers:

I have very small spots of eczema, and my son developed it as well. They are small red spots, the size of pencil erasers. Basically , for care, get ecurin, or the walmart cheap version in the tub, its more concentrated. I think its eczema and that with much moistureization (sp?). You can’t tell my son has it , nor it, untill we don’t moisturize.

answers:

I’m willing to bet that it’s pompholyx (also called vascular or dyshidrotic) eczema. It’s also sometimes called vascular psoriasis.

It’s a maddening disorder, and often doesn’t have a clear cause. I’ve had it for years on and off, right now I’m having a nasty bout with it that I think is tied to stress. A couple years ago I had it so severely on my feet that I could barely walk, after going on prednisone to treat allergies it went away for a while. Allergies, especially contact ones, can worsen it. So can stress, heat, tight clothing, sun exposure, hormones, and in other cases there isn’t any obvious trigger. Some sources say it only lasts a few weeks, but I’ve had spots that lingered on for a year or more.

Pompholyx means “bubble” in Greek, which is pretty apt since they look like bubbles. They can crop up anywhere, but are most common on the fingers, toes, soles and palms. Hydrocortizone can help relieve the itching sometimes, but not always. Prednisone also works, but isn’t something you want to be on long term, and Lidex (sp?) is a great topical cream for it.

Questions And Answers On Eczema Diet

Nancy asks…

why does a gluten free diet help eczema?

im trying it i just dont see how it helps, maybe its because ive only been doing it for four days, but i hear u lose weight too?!

answers:

Well, I’ll start off by saying that I’m a huge proponent of the gluten free diet. I personally went gluten free about a year ago and a ton of health problems went away, including acne. But the diet only works if your symptoms are a result of gluten intolerance. I think you should give it some more time. At the very least 2 weeks, and preferably a month. Some people react very quickly, others take a little while. After the first two weeks, I also suggest taking out dairy. That’s another very common cause of problems. There are a lot of people on here who claim that they had all kinds of skin issues and they went away when they cut out dairy. Lots of people with asthma also say that dairy free helps them.

Some tips for the gluten free: are you looking at everything that goes in your mouth? Lip gloss, medicines, mints, etc? Are you verifying that everything you’re eating is gluten free? I didn’t realize until a couple months in that blue cheese has gluten in it. I was eating doritos thinking they were gluten free and it turns out that the blue cheese powder in them contained gluten. I was also getting a lot of gluten from my pots and pans that I had used before. I had to replace the pots and pans. You may not react to quite as small amounts of gluten as I do, but something to think about. Are you eating at restaurants? I get glutened pretty much every time I eat out. Let me know if you have any questions!

John asks…

How long should eczema rash take to clear up after eliminating the allergin from diet. My 3 month old has?

had it on face, tummy and legs for about a month now. We figured out he has a milk and soy allergy and have changed his formula so that he is no longer getting those. The rash on his face is better. It started getting better within 12 hours of changing the formula, but his legs and tummy are still pretty bad. Just wondering how long it can take for it to clear up.
He has only been on the new formula for 2 and a half days.

answers:

It could also be environmental laudry soap bath soap etc so if it dosen’t clear soon I would start investigating those things you may want to try a non scented detergent and an organic baby soap / lotion alos alot of babies are allergic to corn and corn deravitives in hypoallergenic formulas which can cause excema
EDIT* there was most likely corn syrup in the other formula as well…..

Marie asks…

Severe eczema, can it be diet related?

Ive got severe eczema. at the moment it is red, sore and itchy. I have had doctor appointments and speciallist apointments and they cant put their finger on what is causing it. i have heard that it could be diet related. Has any other person with eczema heard this. If so, have you changed your diet and if so, what to. Any suggestions will be great. Cheers.

answers:

I have atopic eczema, which is very extreme. I have had to cut out all dairy food, spicy food, and as much wheat food as possible. I also have to avoid dusty enviroments and animals with fur. Another thing which causes bad eczema is stress or depression. I am 28 years old and my doctors and specailists have tried to sort it out but failed. So for the last six month i have been doing it myself. I have had to cut out all of the above and re-introduce the foods. I can have spicy in moderation but dairy is a big no no for me. Wheat is also a problem but not in all foods.

One more avoid peanuts.

Questions And Answers On Eczema In Children Home Remedies

John asks…

dermatologist or home remedies for Eczema?

i have always had eczema since i was a child, im 19 now and sometimes the eczema gets really bad….i was wondering what works best a dermatologist or home remedies? what home remedies could you suggest?…i have heard of this dermatologist place called The Dermatology Centre which is based in UK London, does antone know if its any good? or can you tell me of any other dermatology centre’s(in London)?
also, if you have ever had eczema, did it ever clear up completely?
answers will be appreciated! =)
thanks.

answers:

The main cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and milk products which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I’ve turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease – the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.

Jemima asks…

Allergy Shiners/Dark Circles?

What are the chances of me having allergy shiners? And what are remedies for it? Are there any home remedies?

I’ve been through eczema since I was a newborn. Furthermore, for a couple of years during my childhood, I’ve also suffered with asthma. My asthma stopped when I reached about 10/11 years of age. Unfortunately, I still have eczema. Ever since I was a child, I’m big on eye itching. I itch with hard pressure until my eye bags turn wrinkly, red and scaly. I also usually get red eyes (no idea if it’s from lack of sleep or pollution because whenever I step out of my house and head off to university, which is located in the city, my eyes goes pinkish, tired looking and dry). I have dark circles too. Not too sure about puffy eyes. I started noticing those few years ago :( Sometimes when I sleep enough, they won’t go away. So I thought maybe it could be related to an allergy towards something…

I don’t know if its relevant but I have atopic eczema. It flares up all over my body and my eyes only (sometimes on the eyes). I’ve been prescribed with hydrocortisone acetate cream for my eyes last year. Could steroids give me dark circles? I’ve only used it for a month.

Susan asks…

What to do for toddlers itchy, itchy, itchy skin?

My 20 month old son has eczema and food allergies. He is constantly itchy and scratching his skin 24 hours a day. This is no exaggeration, he even scratches in his sleep. I have to put socks on his hands. My problem is they don’t make one single over the counter itch cream for children under 2 years of age. Was wondering if anyone knew of anything, and I mean anything that I can give him to relieve some of his discomfort. Any home remedies? Please help I am desperate!!! Please ask your parents and grandparents, even any old chinese ladies you might know if they have any old family remedies. Thank you!

answers:

My son is 18 months and he is constantly itchy as well. He has red spots all over and can’t stop crying because of the itch. We went to the doctor and have a prescription ointment. It helps sometimes but it makes his skin very dry. We bathe him in lukewarm water with Aveeno Baby Oatmeal power for 10 min and lather him with Vaseline immediately after. I heard Aquaphor is good as well. I just eliminate milk last week but does not seem to help. He drinks soy milk now but he started to itch again two days ago. I will try to eliminate wheat and glutten. I hope this helps.

does anyone know how to get rid of it?

You might try the source below. It talks about different types of skin rashes.

Davina asks…

What is this skin disorder and how can I treat it ?

I’ve have these depigmented, dry, wrinkled white spots on my skin especially on my elbows, belly, buttocks, and knees. They get irritated when I sweat (itchy).

Here are some pictures
(viewer discretion advised, they are pretty nasty)

1) I’ve hadn’t had any sexual encounters with vixens or any animal.
2)I’ve been to the skin doctor twice with the first doctor saying it’s fungus and telling me to dry off sweat and water and the second doctor saying it’s atopic dermatitis and offered topical steroids for just the symptoms(which doesn’t work ). The second one was less experienced and didn’t spend much time looking at it.
3) My parents don’t seem to have it.
I’m looking for a more concrete answer and not just a spontaneous answer.

Thanks for taking your time to look into the problem.
Great answers. Thanks for your support, but there can only be one best.

answers:

My brother and nephews have the same problem.Their doctor diagnosed them with having a fungal infection. He gave them an oral antifungal pill to clear up the problem,it worked for them but it occasionally comes back. The pigment takes a long time to get back to normal though. They also said it was more noticeable right after having a shower and also spread more on their bodies in the summer.Go back to your doctor and ask for the antifungal pill, but until you can get in to see him you can use some over the counter antifungal spray 2 to 3 times a day.Hope you can clear it up soon.

Rachel asks…

Do you think this is chicken pox?

I recently took my 4 yr old to the doctor because once again she had a rash and I wasn’t sure what had caused it (She does have Atopic Dermatitis…I found that out last year so she gets ALOT of rashes!!!) This time around though the doctor feels she has chicken pox! She has had her “bumps” for almost 2 weeks and the doctor felt she would have started “crusting” over the weekend but she did not. In fact alot of the bumps she had on her stomach and such went away without even blistering. Don’t get me wrong…I’m glad she is better but I do want to know what this “rash” was because it does not look like her typical eczma rash she gets. She has had a rash simialar to this one she currently has but we were told back then that they were hives and the Ped. had no idea what they were caused by.

Anyways I was hoping that a few of you might take a look at the picture I placed in my pics at myspace.com and tell me what you think. It is of her leg which seems to be the worst spot right now!
Here is my link to the pic…thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Questions And Answers On Seborrheic Dermatitis Face

Ken asks…

Redness of Face from Seborrheic Dermatitis, any way to improve?

I’ve had Seborrheic Dermatitis for a little while now (7 months about), and I’ve tried countless products. It seems, however, that the more and more products I used, the redder my face got. The flaking is not too bad any more, but my face is red in some areas (cheeks, above mouth, and nose especially). Are there any simple ways to try and return my face back to its normal tone? Thanks.

answers:

Treat the liver, not the face. You will be cured.

Marie asks…

face rash, Seborrheic dermatitis?

Does anyone else have Seborrheic dermatitis? its what ive been suffering from for almost 16 years now. red flakey rash around my nose, my upper lip, my chin and my eyebrows. its painfull itchy and damn embarrasing! I have given up on the dermatologist perscription creams they just doen seem to do anything. I use nizeral shampoo on my face in the shower and it gives minor relief. My question for anyone else with this problem, what do you use or not use? do you suspect it is an allergic reaction to a food type, i have suspected dairy in the past but its almost imposible for me to cut it out for more than a couple days. then theres the allmighty argument, is it a fungus or yeast. tell me what you think it is and why.

answers:

Yeah, I’ve had it since I was about 8 y/o, and I am now 49.

First, the bad news. There is no cure for this.

But, different things work for different people. I’ve found when I find something that works, the benefits are short-lived. One thing that is helping me today is to use Aveeno soap and lotion, and put some hydrocortisone 1% (yes it’s over-the-counter) cream on the red parts.

I use Selsun Blue on the scalp. None is these are a great solution, but like I said, there is no single cure. Good luck

Mandy asks…

seborrheic dermatitis i have and am using selsun which is making my skin look sun burned?

hi have a condition called seborrheic dermatitis dandruff on face, using selsun but making my skin look sunburned, is it still ok to use this product, will the redness go. thx

answers:

I recommend that you should try Champori anti-eczema cream/spray combo. It is herbal and works well for all types of dermatitis. Cleared my skin in just a couple of weeks.

Bernadette

Questions And Answers On Eczema Curel

Cindy asks…

eczema releif (Curel itch defense lotion)?

My 4 year old has severe eczema on her neck, elbows and back of her legs. I saw that Curel has recently came out with a new itch defense lotion they claim its accepted by th national eczema association. Has anyone tried this remedy?

answers:

Try extra virgin cold press olive oil. It’s all natural and has been used for centuries to nourish and moisterize the skin. Some people swear by it. You wouldn’t want to put anything on her skin that you couldn’t put in your own body.

Jemima asks…

What are the best products to treat eczema?

I currently use Oil Of Olay Shea Butter body wash, and then use Curel on my dryer areas after I shower.

I also use Cortaid or Dermarest for when I get especially dry patches.

This can all get pretty tedious at times, and I guess what I’m looking for is a body wash that moisturizes well enough that I would only need to use lotion minimally after I shower.

Also, any recommendations on how to fade out scars from areas where I scratched too hard and broke skin would be great, too. I currently use Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion, but it kind of leaves a greasy residue.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

answers:

My daughter has suffered with eczema since she was born. The doctor recommended Eucerin cream in the jar for her. That worked very well. As far as something that you can use, you could try the Oil of Olay cream that you use just before you get out of the shower. You rub it on and then rinse it off and pat your skiin dry. It works very well. Or you could use one of those spray on oil mists that you spray on in the shower, rinse off lightly and then pat your skin dry. Eucerin also has a cream in a pump bottle that works well and doesn’t leave your skin too greasy feeling. My daughter has been lucky enough to have outgrown most of her eczema problems, which the doctors said she would probably do. But I know that the Eucerin cream in the jar was about the only thing that gave her relief. Good Luck.

Kirstie asks…

What are some good lotions or home remedies for extremely dry skin?

I have eczema and with it being cold out, my face has decided to become extremely dry, but only around my mouth. It feels like its just a layer of dead skin that doesnt want to go away. Im currently using Curel for eczema, but the lotion just sits on top of the skin and I need to reapply it 5 minutes later. Does anyone know of a really good lotion that would help me out or anything else for that matter?

answers:

Euricin may help and I would invest in a cool mist humidifier to keep your home moist.

Questions And Answers On Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Ken asks…

Does dermatitis herpetiformis from Celiac Disease resemble psoriasis?

Okay… is dermatitis herpetiformis scaly, red, and in some areas look like really dry flaky skin? (and when you put on cream it seems to come back/not completely go away)? Does it look anything like psoriasis? Does it resemble eczema?

answers:

Well in psoriasis the scales are white silver in color and when u remove it u find a raw surface with multiple bleeding points ,you can find that here in this site about psoriasis http://psoriasisdestroyer.blogspot.com/

Jim asks…

How long after eating gluten does a rash occur when you have Dermatitis Herpetiformis (Celiac of the Skin)?

Looking more for information as to how long after eating gluten before rash appears – I assume it’s not as quick as the gi issues but not sure. I don’t eat gluten – but have had restaurant mishap.

answers:

It varies from person to person. I haven’t had an outbreak of dermatitis Herpetiformis or of alopecia in years, despite breaking the gluten-free diet on several occasions. I used to get both of those within days of eating gluten. My father, who also has the disease, has never had either.

Mike asks…

Dermatitis herpetiformis and celiac disease ?

For the past 4 months iv been really unwell and had a lot of tests done.
I was tested for celiac diease which looked likely for me, it was a blood test but it came back negative.
I have bad stomach aches after eating, headaches, fatigue, nausea, tingling in my feet and hands, with occasional diarrhea/constipation altering.
I also have light rid dots around my elbows which i was wondering if that could be a sign of dermatitis herpetiformis, a symptom associated with celiac ?
And also could it be possible i am developing celiac disease but it just hasnt built up enough to show in my blood yet ????

answers:

It’s very hard to get a diagnosis of Celiac disease. The best thing to do is to go on a gluten free diet. If you start to feel better, and your symptoms go away, then you know. I know a few people who had negative tests, but when they went gluten free, they got better. The tests aren’t always accurate.

Questions And Answers On Psoriasis Treatment Over The Counter

Paul asks…

Anyone know of a good topical treatment for psoriasis – over the counter not prescription?

answers:

Hello there. For my plaque psor. (elbows, knees and scalp) the herbal cream/spray combo by champori works the best: my patches cleared almost completely in just 2 weeks and I haven’t had a flare up in more than a year now. Try it: it comes with money back guarantee, so if it doesn’t work – it’s free.

Lisa asks…

What is the best over-the-counter treatment for psoriasis breakout?

answers:

I personally have psoriasis, and I’ve never seen an over the counter medication for that type of thing. I get it on my scalp the worst, and I ended up going to the doctor(dermatologist). He prescribed Derma-Smoothe/FS scalp oil. If you follow the directions correctly, it actually works. My sister applies this oil to her hands, that’s where she gets it the worst. To be honest, it’s a bit expensive, but its worth it. I used to lose so much hair, and it itched like crazy. It also formed this weird sticky slime, or juice. I don’t know how to describe it, but I obviously had it pretty bad. The down fall is that there’s no cure for psoriasis, which is a bummer. I totally understand your agony. I hope I helped. If you have any questions you can email me. Best of Luck!

Wayne asks…

What is the best over-the-counter treatment for psoriasis?

answers:

Ther is not a good over the counter for psoriasis you need to go to the doctor. I have had psoriasis for 3 years now nothing of the counter ever helped me
